The Ted Kenney/George Vest Jr. Scholarship
This scholarship provides financial support to college-bound children of members of local unions affiliated with the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters. Local 250 had a winner in 2018, two winners in 2017, and one in 2016. The application period for the $1,000 scholarships begins in April and ends on July 1.
CISCO Board Expands Scholarship Program
The Construction Industry Service Corporation's (CISCO) board of directors expanded its scholarship program this year. They now offer three $2,000/year, 4-year scholarship awards, and two 2-year awards (of $1,000) to high school seniors planning to attend community college. They also offer 2 two-year continuing education awards (of $1,000/year) to union members or contractor employees. The CISCO Scholarship Program deadline is in February. The William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship
Each year, the Chicago Federation of Labor awards ten scholarships to high school seniors (valued at $2,000 each) to five winners of the Academic Competition and five winners of the Random Drawing. The funds may be used at any accredited college or university in the United States. Applications for the William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship close in February.
The Union Plus Scholarship Program
Since 1991, the Union Plus Scholarship Program has awarded more than $4 million to students of working families who want to begin or continue their post-secondary education. Over 2,700 families have benefited from our commitment to higher education. The Union Plus Scholarship Program is offered through the Union Plus Education Foundation, supported in part by contributions from the provider of the Union Plus Credit Card. (You do not need to be a Union Plus Credit Cardholder to apply for this scholarship.) The scholarship application period opens in mid-June, and awards are announced on May 31 of the following year.
